Birdsville Races recognised at outback awards17-Nov-2014
The Birdsville Races were recognised for a second consecutive year at the Outback Queensland Tourism Awards held in Charleville, QLD on 15 November 2014. The Races took out the Major Festival and Events category.
Birdsville Race Club (BRC) President David Brook accepted the award on behalf of the Birdsville Races and was joined by his wife Nell, BRC Event Coordinator Prue Fargher along with Diamantina Shire Council representatives Jody Barr (councillor) and partner Franzsiska Pessier, Don (councillor) and Judy Rayment and Barbara Mason.
Mr Brook thanked Tourism and Events Queensland, the Diamantina Shire Council and our commercial partners for their collaboration and support in ensuring the ongoing success and sustainability of such an iconic Queensland event. Mr Brook also recognised that the award was one for the entire Birdsville community with almost half the local adult population, members of the BRC.
Perhaps it was fitting that the Birdsville Races was recognised on the same weekend that its principle charity partner, the Royal Flying Doctor Service, opened its new base, hangar and visitor centre in Charleville. The Birdsville Races continues to raise tens of thousands of dollars each to support the ongoing critical work of the RFDS.
